Facts don’t matter. Why? Because people make decisions based on their emotions. After choosing, they seek “facts” and “reasoning” to support conclusions they reached without using either. That is no surprise to you. I’m sure you can readily think of examples of other people who do this unconsciously.

Here is the trap, you do this too, and just like everyone else, you aren’t aware you do it either.

The question isn’t whether or not you do this. The question is, how can you train yourself to do better?

It is Hard-Wired Into Your Brain

I’m not singling you out. We all do this. Human brains have evolved to act this way. Science wasn’t a thing in the distant past. So, our brains didn’t develop to evaluate complicated issues like pandemics and climate change. Instead, they evolved to keep us alive long enough to reproduce. That is all nature cared about.

The person who feared going too close to a cave because they believed a monster lived in the cave was more likely to survive than the person who went to investigate that cave and became a bear buffet. Evolution does not care if your view of reality is correct; all it…
